Clown offers artists a unique way to access the imagination. During the workshop participants will cultivate the freedom to be zany and go for the unknown. Individual and group activities will give participants the chance to practice listening, following impulses and developing a sense of play.
***You do not need to be a performer to take this workshop. Folks with many different life experiences can find freedom and pleasure when engaging with clown techniques.***
About the Instructor:
Jacqueline Russell (she/her) is a director, performer, and clown who lives in Mohkinstsis on Treaty Seven territory. She has taught workshops in clown, mask, and creation across so-called Canada, from Comox to Montreal. She completed her MFA thesis “Feminist Clown: Serious Pleasures and Strategic Possibilities” at the University of Calgary. As a performer and creator, she has contributed to many new works, including two-full length clown shows, Hushabye and The Sama Kutra, that toured nationally. She infuses her clown curiosities into all her artistic realms, as a director and dramaturge for theatre, opera, and musicals, and even her work as a yoga instructor.
